a new hobby

well, what can I say about our 3rd child....

he is sweet. he is silly. he loves to dance. he is happy. he is bright.

he is mischief....

i don't recall the other two being quite as much trouble...

our 3rd just likes to get into everything imaginable....

he has a radar for child locks that are accidentally left unlocked....

he found the unlocked one (oops, i think that was my fault) under the kitchen sink the other day and had to try a bite of a dishwasher pack--resulting in a call to poison control... (he was fine)

maybe it's a birth order thing?

you have the oldest- the rule follower, the people pleaser, the responsible one....

the middle one- sensitive, quiet but also can be quite loud and goofy if the mood strikes....

the third--social, outgoing.... trouble :)

he certainly keeps us on our toes....

we now keep every door shut upstairs (except his room) because of his tendency to get into things he shouldn't....

of course, he has a radar for open doors too....

so when the bathroom door is open he takes the opportunity to play in the sink....

any chance he can get...

if you can't seem to find him....

go on upstairs and there he will be....

at the sink...

washing his hands and toys and whatever else he can find....

soaked...

and happy as can be....

may you always delight in the little things....

my wild, sweet boy....

cabin fever

these photos are really nothing new.....

quite monotonous actually.....

kids in their pjs.....

in the sunlight....

in the living room....

same thing....

day in and day out...

we've had our share of sickness the past 3 weeks...

so we really haven't done much....

i was fiddling around with a new lens....

just thought i'd share a bit of our every day....

spring is around the corner, right?!

counting the days....

another month has gone by...

another link up with some photog friends...

feeling a little cooped up these days....

winter is losing its luster....

sicknesses have been rearing their ugly little heads around here....

spending my days bleaching every surface imaginable....

haven't been picking up my camera much lately....

one day i did because, once again, i couldn't help but notice gus playing in the light....

it seems....

those warm, bright rays of sunshine are, at times, one of the only things that help to carry me through the monotony of these cold winter days....

gus's sweet little face helps a bit too.... :)

one winter day

one evening a couple of weeks ago...

owen and tom went skiing (owen's first time ever....) so i stayed home with the other two....

i plopped gus in the swing.....

he was quite content there....

i couldn't help but grab my camera....

the sun was just beginning to hide behind the house and hill...

so i snapped away while max played around in the snow as the sun was setting....

a new year.

a new project.

hoping this will get me out of the photography slump!

really make me pick up that camera of mine....

i've joined up with a lovely group of ladies in a project called "Living a Life."

the quote will guide us in our journey each month....

one morning last week, I couldn't help but notice the sun peeking through the window...

shining its rays on my middle child while he bounced, with his lovey in hand, upon the couch....

this was my life....

one sunny winter morning...

memories from the season...

this is going to be quite a hodgepodge of a post...

i really did not pick up my camera much on christmas...

instead.... i lived it....

soaked it all in...

and that's ok too....

i have a few memories from the season to share...

it is probably my favorite time of the year...

cookie baking and decorating (and eating) with the boys--they were very enthusiastic about decorating the sugar cookies...i also baked ginger snaps, spritz, and krumkake...they are my must bake cookies every year...

the boys and i gingerbread house decorating with the residents at a nursing home up the road from us--the residents were so sweet and i really think they loved having little ones around...the boys were so sweet with them...that moment really made my heart happy.... that maybe we brightened their day just a little...and max still talks about when he "helped the old people and he ate all of the candy"...... ha! (gus watched--sat in his stroller and looked cute...)

owen bringing home gifts from a white elephant party at school....instead of picking out gifts for himself he brought gifts for each of us...he was so excited... (maybe we are doing something right on this parenting journey....??) the gifts were animal flash cards for gus, a toy saw for max, a water bottle holder thing that you wear on your back for tom, and a black plastic beaded necklace and thank you cards for me.  melt my heart...

owen wrapping up old books of his for his brothers and not being able to wait until christmas for them to open them...

listening to endless christmas music (possibly before thanksgiving)... a few of my faves: sarah mclachlan, amy grant, and good ol' traditional songs by frank sinatra, gene autry, bing crosby, and burl ives..

watching a different christmas movie every night...a few of my faves- elf, a christmas story, miracle on 34th street, little women (which really probably isn't a christmas movie but i always associate it with christmas), home alone, and a charlie brown christmas

going to the local tree farm to pick out our tree...warming up in the warming house with some cider, seeing santa, and sitting by the bonfire....

decorating the house and tree with the boys while listening to christmas music...

twinkling lights....

horse drawn wagonette ride by the river in our quaint little town...

the boy's anticipation and excitement during the season...

creating handmade gifts....

brown paper packages tied up with strings...

driving around with cocoa and popcorn looking at christmas lights while listening to more christmas music.....owen spilling cocoa all over himself and deciding it wasn't so fun anymore.... :)

on christmas, owen coming up to my side of the bed at 6 am to give me the report that santa ate his cookies and the reindeer liked their celery....

spending christmas day with my dear family....

missing tom because he had to work all day....

missing snow on christmas...

spending more time up north with my family (as tom worked all weekend) -- bentleyville tour of lights (think LOTS of christmas lights) ,potluck, bonfire, and white elephant gift exchange.....owen was really into the gift exchange.... he even scored one of those darn talking fish.... :)

singing silent night (my all time favorite song) to my 2 littlest boys at bedtime...

feeling thankful and blessed for so much...

hope you had a season full of many blessings as well...
