spring break

Spring break was this past week for Owen and somehow we got it in our crazy heads that a little get away would be a great idea.  Cabin fever was in full swing.  We wanted a little taste of sunshine and warmth. A change of pace. I was also thinking back to my childhood and all of the new places my parents brought us three kids starting pretty much from birth.  I am thankful to them for broadening our horizons. It is something I want for my kids as well. I was feeling a little guilty that we haven't been as brave. (admittedly--the thought of packing up 3 kids and traveling is a bit daunting for me!) We decided we needed to change that since Owen had a whole week off and we had no plans.  Owen still remembers and talks about our trip to California from when he was 4 years old.  Now that Max is a little older (and gus is still free on an airplane) it was time for another adventure. One that Owen and now Max will hopefully talk about for years to come.  We scoured the internet for days trying to figure out a suitable place to go with three young children.  We had almost settled on Florida but came upon Atlantis in the Bahamas.  There were many reasons we decided on Atlantis-- we booked through sun country vacations and got a good deal, it was only a 3 1/2 hour direct flight (longer would have been suicide with Gus. ha!), no need for a rental car, family friendly, a waterpark, aquarium, sunshine and warmth, beach, and the ocean.  Need I say more? So we spent 6 nights and 7 days in the Bahamas.

I have way too many photos to share.  Looking through them was actually a bit overwhelming.  I wasn't sure how to share all I want to so I decided I'll break it up by days.  The first day was a day of travel.  Gus did much better on the plane than I expected, thank goodness! On the second day, we spent a little time walking in the shopping village by the marina (holy huge yachts...) and checked out a bit of the aquarium. We ended up spending the afternoon in a little spot called the Lagoon.  It was a perfect spot for little ones with shallow, warm water and sand.  Owen and Max swam around and pretended to be sharks.  Gus was pretty content to just dig in the sand or wander around.  Overall, a good first day.  Lots of  time for just hanging out. Plus, a lovely dose of sunshine. Here is our first full day in pictures.  Be prepared for more.... :)
